Who we are & What we do
Modalit is a managed IT services company in central London, offering tailored IT support for a range of small and medium-sized businesses. We’ve been supporting businesses in several sectors for over 20 years, and during that time we’ve seen some remarkable changes in how IT can impact on business success. Now, in a world where ‘always on’ is normal, and networks are how everything happens, we focus entirely on keeping our customers connected. All the time. At Modalit we believe our customers are our partners. Our role is to understand their business so that we can recommend and support the best services to meet their needs.
Modalit
We talk like human beings, we don’t use jargon, and we listen. With Modalit, you know who you’re talking to. All our clients have a named contact; there’s no anonymous help-desk. We deliver reliability, efficiency and measurable value to our customers. We’re proud of our expertise, our resistance to fads (we’ve seen them come and go), and our proven way of working. We work closely with our clients to deliver the right service, and value for money. We agree service levels and tailor response times to each client’s needs. We can also work on a project basis.
Meet The Team
Iain Stewart:
Director and Technical Lead
Iain is a dedicated problem-solver who has worked in IT for over 25 years. After five years with Arts Council England he set up a consultancy providing IT services for charities and arts organisations, and founded Modalit in 1997. Iain is a Windows expert with a background in arts administration and not-for-profits, and special interests in virtualisation, email systems, and a raft of other network and web technologies. Iain was born in Melbourne and has lived in London since 1990. He is an eternally optimistic guitarist.
Liam Fitzgerald
Support Engineer
Liam has a lifelong ambition to learn everything he can about all aspects of IT. After he left school he started a BTec in ICT at his local college in South London, but after two weeks he realised he wanted to be doing something hands-on. He joined an agency, which led him to Modalit. ‘I didn’t think college would be as useful as this’, he says, ‘and I’ve been proven right’. He loves the way his job includes a bit of everything and learning something new every day.
Kat Demidova
Support Engineer
Kat joined the team in early 2018. She has worked in manufacturing and retail and holds a degree in Computing and IT Security. Her knowledge of Linux and Web development is a welcome addition to our collective skillset.
Originally from Riga, Kat has lived in London since 2009. When she isn’t helping customers or solving yet another problem out of the too-hard box, Kat likes to explore the city and visit its many galleries.
Richard Travers
Technical Consultant
Richard is the Modalit security expert, with two degrees and fifteen years of expertise in advanced network security. He spent five years building public key cryptography (PKI) systems for Cybertrust (now part of Verizon) and has been a PKI and disaster recovery manager for Accenture Security Consulting. He started his own company, Posix, in 2008, helping businesses to build and operate secure systems.
Richard moved to London from Seattle in 1999, to work on his MSc, and has lived here ever since.
Peter Marsh
Technical Consultant
Peter is a .Net developer with a wealth of experience. He’s developed web-based applications for Gap, Pernod Ricard and several smaller companies and organisations. He designed a content management system before they were common, giving several dozen clients control over their website content. At Orion Media Marketing he provided Unix administration and managed transactions between an ERP and warehouse management system. He loves automating repetitive tasks and streamlining work processes.
Larry Cummings
Support Engineer
Larry has over thirty years’ experience in the IT industry. He spent six years as European support for networking at Datapoint Ltd, and two years as IT manager with Viasat Broadcasting, a 16-channel satellite TV company. He is a specialist in infrastructure and structured cabling design, network maintenance and wide area networks, and knows almost everything about Netware and Microsoft server and desktop products. Larry was born in Texas, and in his spare time he helps build the character of future generations as a scout leader.
